October was the month for Porsche enthusiasts, beginning with the Penske
Porsche 963 winning the Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, and the
following weekend was the excitement of Luftgekuhlt 12!

The small town of Trilith in Fayetteville, Georgia was the setting, where once
again Patrick Long and Jeff Zwart brought the event to the East Coast. Due to
the threat of a hurricane, a majority of the more notable cars were on display
in The Shipyard and The Town Stage at Trilith. An easter egg surprise
awaited, for those fortunate enough to find it, in the massive Cinema
building.
The rain came on Friday before the main event. The Shipyard was where the
Whittington brothers’ 935s were, all three of them! Two Brumos racers along
with a couple of 962s , and several more cars were on display there as well.
Tommy Kendall hosted an informative chat with Jeff Zwart, Leh Keen and
Hurley Haywood on a stage covered by a large canopy between the two
buildings.
The main event was the next day, but due to the storm the hours were
changed to 1-5 pm. The rain was reduced to brief, light showers, and the
crowd was large, and eager with anticipation.
The Cinema and Town Stage were now open. Targa Florio was in The Town
Stage, and in the Cinema building was a movie about Jeff Zwart’s East
African Safari Classic Rally. There were more cars in front of a large screen
in the lobby.

There was some grumbling, about parking and the time change, by those
who attended the event last year in Durham. The rain was inevitable and out
of their control, but they managed to put on a great show despite the
challenges.
Let’s hope they return to the East Coast again next year!!
